sounds so far that everybody has his own version of seastead…
So maybe we can settle for two points to roughly define a seastead.
– something that is definitly different to what exists already (ship yacht oil rig)
– something that is geared for permanent dwellings on the ocean
TSI supplies a picture of its “seastead vision” version
what i can see here is that this “original vision” is centered on.
– a city setup
– oriented to marine trade (so definitly not autosufficient )
– oriented to harbor functions (so definitly not isolationist)
– showcases several building styles ( marina walkways, ocean bubble concept)
– is definitly not built for being on a drydock maintenance shedule like a boat or a ship
– is open CLUSTER concept (instead of propietary snap fit parts)
…
- something a business would choose as headquarter location
– something an investor would see potential in and invest in
These two are points that i would suggest as part of the seastead definition when looking at the “official vision picture” and the last 6 years of TSI efforts to “channel the vision”.
Seems already clear that there wil be many flavors and directions of “Seasteads” and the question “what is a TRUE seastead” may NEVER be answered satisfactory…
The terminology is where people are hanging up. My definition is not the same as any of the above, but more like the traditional land-based view of the homestead/farmstead…
